Our Winery
Domaine Wardy is overflowing with wine and arak passion. Nestled in Zahle in the fertile Beqaa Valley renowned for its premium wine and rich history, Domaine Wardy has roots that date back to 1891. Today Domaine Wardy makes award-winning wines and arak that are synonymous with depth, complexity and elegance. And the winery is where this success story starts.

Domaine Wardy's winery has a grape handling area, where only the best handpicked grapes are sorted and pressed. Once the grapes are ready for use, stainless steel and concrete fermentation tanks create the perfect reaction and imported French, American and Eastern European oak barrels are used to age the wines. Because quality is at the heart of everything we do, we have a modern, fully-equipped laboratory to ensure all our wine and arak meet international standards. The latest wine filtering equipment and a completely automated twin bottling and labelling line with a capacity of 3,000 bottles per hour then add the finishing touches. To preserve the wine in ideal conditions before it reaches your glass, we have a wine storage area with constantly monitored temperature (14°-16°C) and humidity (65-75%) around the clock. We also have an underground tasting area (cellar) for visitors who wish to sample our products.

History

Domaine Wardy makes its home in a region with a longstanding tradition of winemaking which can be traced back to ancient times. The Romans were captivated by the local flavours to the point they built a temple dedicated to the god of wine, Bacchus. And this legacy of premium wine is an essential part of who we are.

Domaine Wardy's first seeds were sown in the 1890s by the Gantous and Abou Raad families who produced arak. In 1947 the two families partnered to launch the arak brand Gantous & Abou Raad. A major turning point in our history came in 1971 when the Wardy family bought Abou Raad's 51% share of the business and formed Solified S.A.R.L. This was followed by the creation of two new arak brands (Al Najjar and Al Arrab) and the firm branching out into vinegar. By 1973 Gantous & Abou Raad had become Lebanon’s bestselling arak brand and remains so to this day.

In 1997, the Wardy family bought out the rest of the shares and branched out into wines, which is now our main focus. Ever the pioneers, we were the first winemaker to cultivate vines at an altitude of 1,100 m and 1,400 m and the first in Lebanon to produce single variety wine such as Sauvignon Blanc. Today Domaine Wardy is a multi -award- winning winemaker.

Private Selection

Private Selection

Private Selection is exclusively made from the best selection of grapes from the highest cultivated vineyards in the country (at an altitude of 1,400m above sea level). A blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon that has been aged in new French oak barrels for 14 months, this unfiltered red wine has an expressive spicy nose with hints of clove and a luxurious taste of red fruits and spices with a caramelized finish.

The Private Selection is superb with any red meat. It is best served at room temperature.

It is the policy of Domaine Wardy never to submit the Private Selection to wine competitions.

Cuvée Du Liban is a blend of 70% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet-Franc and 15% Merlot. Embodying the unique terroirs of Lebanon, its grapes come from different vineyards across the Bekaa Valley. Its distinctive aromas and character capture the spirit of one of the oldest wine producing countries in the world.

A special vintage, only 10,452 bottles have been produced, representing Lebanon's surface area of 10,452 km². This wine can harmoniously age for up to 15 years. It is best served at room temperature.

Our Vineyards
Domaine Wardy's vineyards are spread throughout the Bekaa Valley, a plateau with altitudes of 900 to 1,400 meters and a fertile variety of soils. This makes the grapes distinctive and we bring out their full flavour by reducing the yield to ensure each grape gets all the nutrients it needs. And since we own 80% of our vineyards and strictly supervise the remaining 20% under contract, we have complete control over every detail.

At Domaine Wardy, each terroir is different. This forms the grounds for the perfect conditions for diverse varieties of red and white grapes:
  • Plain alluvial and clay terroir (Zahle)
  • Hill slopes gravel and clay terroir (Kfarzabad)
  • Terraced calcareous clay terroir (Bhoucha)
These terroirs are the birthplace of wines that are full bodied or have a subtle acidic twist or are smooth and not very dry depending on the type of soil and grape.

Located at an altitude of 900m, Domaine Wardy's Zahle vineyard has been growing premium grapes since 1989. It is planted with Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Viognier, Muscat, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Located at an altitude of 1,000m, Domaine Wardy's Bhoucha vineyard has been fertile ground for quality grapes since 2008. It is planted with Tempranillo and Carmenere.
